[Review] Star Trek Novel: The Tears of the Singers

The Original Star Trek series is one of my favorites and Nyota Uhura is my favorite character in the original series cast, so naturally, I was eager to read a novel that centered around her. This novel in particular, I found to be a mixed bag there were things that I liked and disliked. I enjoyed how Uhura got to showcase more of her singing abilities and musicality because unfortunately, with the show being a product of its time Uhura's parts were constantly cut, and she didn't get to show her true full potential as a character. Next, up, I know the book is only 15 chapters long, but I felt that Uhura's and Guy Maslin's romance was rushed, and not so surprising he has a deadly illness that he ends up succumbing to in the end.  I must admit some of the writing did not age well. I think the initial dilemma presented within the novel was interesting and I liked how music and singing were at the heart and center of the story.  Overall, I would recommend this novel becaus...

[Review] Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is truly a once-in-a-lifetime talent and entertainer who's in a league of his own. Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson provides great insight into the King of Pop's artistry, musicality, and creative process. Michael was a pioneer, visionary, master of his craft, and a perfectionist. The book was well-researched and had great tidbits of information that only enhanced the reading experience. I personally learned quite a few things that I didn't know. It was amazing to go on a journey to read about how Michael Jackson's artistry evolved over the years within his illustrious career.  I do recommend this book it's a page-turner.

[Review] Cooking from the Spirit

It's Veganuary, and I would like to keep this review short and sweet. In May 2021, I decided to make a lifestyle change and I started transitioning to a more vegan/plant-based diet to improve my health. So naturally, when you have to cook for yourself, you need new recipes that you can add to your repertoire, and that's exactly what this book does. I'm a simple girl and I like recipes that are simple and easy to do. I don't mind that most of the recipes in the book don't contain exact measures because I like to season my foods to taste anyways. I also liked how the book was organized into different sections. Mrs. Tabitha Brown is truly an inspiration and she has a great personality.  I would highly recommend getting this book. It's a true delight.

[Analysis] Saved by the Bell: Lisa Turtle

Lisa Marie Turtle who was portrayed by actress Lark Voorhies on Saved by the Bell is my favorite character on the show. I enjoyed how she was viewed as a character first and not defined by her skin tone. I know the story of how initially the character was written as a Jewish princess from New York. However, the producers loved Lark's audition so much that Lisa's cultural background changed from what it was originally going to be.   Family The character Lisa comes from an upper-class family, she's rich, and both of her parents are accomplished doctors. It's too bad that we only got to see her father once throughout the entire show but what we did get was great. She's also an only child so that means her parents probably spoil her. Fashion Lisa is a fashion icon the way she was styled on the show was impeccable and remarkable. She wore so many outfits that I would've loved to have my own pair of in my closet. She also wanted to pursue a career in fashion and tha...

[Opinion] In the Future, it's Going to Become Harder to Book Headlining Talent for the Super Bowl

Pretty much every Super Bowl Sunday there are 4 things people look forward to the actual game, the commercials, the food, and the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. However, going forward it's going to become increasingly difficult for the NFL to book Headlining talent who's never performed at the Super Bowl before, and here's why: The music industry is not producing Popstars or music Superstars anymore. In the Digital Age of Media, everything's become fractured and decentralized. Right now, the music industry veterans are carrying the industry on their backs.  Old or older music is currently outselling the new or newer music that's being released. There are only a handful of musicians left who've never headlined the Super Bowl that could potentially put on a fantastic show worthy of a Football Stadium.

[Review] Janet Jackson Documentary (2022)

I have been an admirer of Janet Jackson since I was a young girl and I have a lot of respect for her. In the Janet 2022 documentary, Janet Jackson opens up about her life story on her own terms. Below are my thoughts and key takeaways from when I was watching the documentary: The crew started filming in 2017 so over the course of 4-5 years. The documentary overall was engaging well presented and executed as it showcased the highs and lows of Janet's life. The three amigos: Michael, Randy, and Janet often got into trouble. It was emotional seeing the Jackson 5 mural in Gary, Indiana. Janet's quote about her father: "Discipline without love is tyranny." It gave insight into Janet's headspace and why she made certain decisions such as the secret marriage to James Debarge. Michael and Janet started to grow apart during the Thriller Era and his mega success after they were so close. Rene's and Janet's unseen footage which Rene had recorded on his camera. It w...

[Opinion] My Initial Thoughts: Shingeki no Kyoujin Manga Ending (Chapter 139)

When I finished reading the final chapter of Shingeki no Kyoujin at the time it was initially released, I jotted down my raw thoughts and reactions to the chapter, so without further ado: The ending was a mixed bag of good things and bad things. Mikasa and Ymir (the founder) are slaves to their emotions. My interpretation: Mikasa did what Ymir could not in the end. It was disappointing that Mikasa never evolved from being a satellite character . A character whose motivations and overall personality essentially revolve around their interaction with another, possibly more interesting, character with whom they really should be on an equal standing. Without this interaction, they would otherwise be pretty bland. Eren didn't think his plan entirely through; it was a botched attempt at Lelouch's Zero Requiem Plan and it wasn't nearly even as compelling. A take on twisted love that's meant to be endearing; no matter how much the world views you as a monster or the atrocities...
