[Review] Beyond Uhura: Star Trek and Other Memories

There will be certain people who will have a profound effect or influence on you and Nichelle Nichols did for many people. I must say that Nichelle is a phenomenal woman and it was a pleasure to read her autobiography.

I learned many things such as the prosperous black town of Robbins, Illinois where she grew up, and how she could have starred in the television series Mannix as the secretary Peggy Fair but it was blocked by Gene Roddenberry from happening. She also opened up about her romantic relationship with Gene and the microaggressions she faced on the Star Trek set during the 1960s. I was saddened at the lack of opportunities for her to show off her dancing and singing talents. However, she revealed that she did do a lot of stage plays and theatre work which I found fascinating.

I found her career and life journey to be inspiring. I also enjoyed learning about her work with NASA as well. I believe that Nichelle Nichols accomplished many great things in her lifetime and I'm proud to own her autobiography. She most certainly inspired a whole generation and left an indelible mark on pop culture.

Pretty much every Super Bowl Sunday there are 4 things people look forward to the actual game, the commercials, the food, and the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. However, going forward it's going to become increasingly difficult for the NFL to book Headlining talent who's never performed at the Super Bowl before, and here's why: The music industry is not producing Popstars or music Superstars anymore. In the Digital Age of Media, everything's become fractured and decentralized. Right now, the music industry veterans are carrying the industry on their backs. Old or older music is currently outselling the new or newer music that's being released. There are only a handful of musicians left who've never headlined the Super Bowl that could potentially put on a fantastic show worthy of a Football Stadium.
